Active Directory PowerShell Toolkit
A starter concept for clear, read-only directory inventory scripts and practical reporting.
A collection of small PowerShell utilities for answering everyday directory inventory questions with understandable output.
Illustrative starter project: this page describes a possible project structure. It does not represent a released toolkit or completed deployment. Replace the example with your repository, implementation details, and verified results.
The idea
Directory reporting often begins as a one-off command. This project gives reusable reports a consistent place to live, with documented inputs, sample output, and an explanation of each report’s limitations.
The initial scope is read-only inventory in an authorized environment. Any future changes to directory objects would need a separately designed and reviewed workflow.
Proposed building blocks
| Component | Responsibility |
|---|---|
| Computer inventory | Collect selected system properties |
| Group report | Document group names and ownership fields |
| Export helpers | Produce consistently named CSV files |
| Usage notes | Explain scope, prerequisites, and caveats |
Example interface
This is an interface sketch rather than a command provided by a published module:
# Proposed command shape
Get-DirectoryInventory -SearchBase 'OU=Lab,DC=example,DC=test' |
Export-Csv -Path .\lab-inventory.csv -NoTypeInformation
What good looks like
- Each report has one clearly described purpose.
- Results remain structured objects until they are exported.
- A reviewer can understand the query scope without reading every line.
- The documentation explains where human review is necessary.
Next steps
Define one inventory report, run it in a test directory, and compare a sample of the results with known records. Publish a real repository link here once the implementation is ready to share.
